Located four blocks from Lake Michigan in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, the Cenacle Retreat and Conference Center provides a quiet atmosphere that is ideal for a meditation retreats.It has a courtyard which can be used for walking meditation if weather permits.The Cenacle has a friendly and helpful staff and is a comfortable and peaceful environment to conduct a retreat.

Retreat Description: Insight Chicago’s New Year’s Retreat will be held in Noble Silence. Retreatants will practice mindfulness meditation, which involves moment-to-moment observation of the body/mind process through calm and focused awareness. We shall use the Buddha’s principle instruction on meditation, the teaching on the four foundations of mindfulness, as our guide. This retreat is suitable for beginners and seasoned meditators alike. The teacher will provide instruction and discussion, dharma talks, and group meetings throughout the retreat.

Our teacher for this retreat is Andrew Getz.We are happy to welcome him back to Chicago.Andrew has been leading meditation retreats for Insight Chicago since IC first began offering retreats.

Andrew Getz

Andrew lives in California and has practicedVipassana meditation for 30 years. He was ordained as a monk in Thailand and Burma, where he lived for many years. He studied under U Pandita of the Mahasi Meditation Center in Burma, and spent a period of time in the monasteries of Ajahn Buddhadasa of Thailand. He is also a student of Christopher Titmuss and has taught at Spirit Rock and Meditation Center in Barre MA.

Andrew is a nurse and was trained as a mindfulness-based stress reduction instructor by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. He has worked extensively teaching mindfulness in healthcare community settings and with incarcerated teens.  Andrewhas taught meditation retreats here in Chicago many times before and is among the very best Vipassana teachers.We are fortunate to have him return again to Chicago this New Year's.

Cost: Costs include three meals a day and all expenses pertaining to your stay at the Cenacle. The cost per person for the retreat is as follows:

Dona:The teachings are offered freely but there will be an opportunity to make a donation (dana) to the teacher at the end of the retreat.

Registration: Space is limited (15 singles 4 doubles and 5 non-residential) so early registration is highly recommended. Cancellation and Refund Policy: Cancellations before November 29th will receive a full refund. Cancellations after November 29th until December 12 will receive a refund less $50. No refunds after December 12th.
